It’s never enough April 2, 2009

This post is a little late, but after speaking with a co-worker, it made me laugh.

This past Tuesday, I planned on riding with the RB Cycling group.  I road over to the shop and saw a few riders getting warmed up.  They all had some very slick bikes and were dressed in their racing gear.  Here I come riding up on my mountain bike, shorts and t-shirt.  I looked like a redneck rider.  Who cares, it’s not what’s on the outside, but what’s on the inside, and I have a lot of determination.  The riders and owner of the shop were very nice and helped educate me on the route they were going to take.

The ride started off pretty good.  I stayed with them for about two miles.  After that, I was all alone.  They were so fast.  It makes me feel like the story about the Turtle and the Hare.  I just keep on going.  I may not be fast, but I will finish the race.   I’ll stick with riding on Saturday’s with the “C” group for now.  I think the ride will be more fun with people who are at my level of riding.

I ended up riding just over 17 miles that day.  Whenever I come home the girls always ask how far I rode.  I think last Sunday they were impressed with the 32 miles.  So, when my youngest daughter asked how far I rode, I told her 17 miles.  She gave me this look, then said “is that all”.  It made me laugh.  They will always be my motivator to do more, and they won’t let me settle for less.  Sometimes “it’s never enough” can be a good thing.
