Not as young as I thought April 21, 2009

We made it to the beach safely.  Had some rain on the way down and clouds all night.  However, today was a new day.  Beautiful weather.  It was in the mid 70’s with blue skies.  Where we are staying, there is a very safe bike route along 30A.  I took the route up to Hwy 98 and turned around.  It was a 21 mile ride and a great start for the week.

When I got back, I headed down to the beach.  It was a red flag day and the waves were pretty large.  The kids had a new boogie board…you know the wooden disk that you run and jump on then skim across a thin layer of water.  I remember doing this when I was in my 20’s and it was a blast.  So, I had to give it a shot and show the kids how it’s done.  That was the biggest mistake.  I ended up with one foot on the board and one barried in the sand.  This had the effect of me doing the splits.  I don’t know what I did, but I have definitely pulled something.  Maybe a hamstring or something, but I can’t bend over and touch my toes.  I can bend my leg and all, but if there is any stretch in the leg, there is a shooting pain where my butt meets my hamstring.

Needless to say, I am not in a good mood about this.  I am able to ride the bike.  It doesn’t seem to have any shooting pain.  I’m gonna give it a shot tomorrow.  I sure hope I can still ride ok.  I don’t care if I can’t walk, touch my toes or anything, as long as I can ride.  If anyone has any secret to getting over this, let me know.  I’ll take medicine as long as I won’t injure it more.

Warning to all…let the kids do the tricks.  I’ve learned my lesson, maybe just a little too late.
