It’s looking like a good week May 28, 2009

The bike is running well, the weather is cooperating, and the new routes are keeping things interesting.  I did a 24 mile ride yesterday taking the new route up Chambers over to Sumac then up to Collierville-Arlington.  It’s a safe, quiet ride.  Today, I mapped out a route to Mason, TN.  It looked like a good way to go, but I had never taken these roads on the bike, much less in the car.  So I was a little apprehensive.  I got to the town of Haden and ended up at what looked like a busy highway.  I saw several big trucks going pretty fast and no room on the side to ride the bike.  I had to take this for almost a mile before getting off onto another back road, so I decided not to risk it riding by myself.  Seeing that I had ridden 17 miles, I thought it would still be a good ride even if I didn’t make it to Mason.  So, I turned around and headed back.  When I got to Galloway, TN, I could see some ugly clouds building.  I stopped and decided to call Lisa to see if they were getting any rain.  When I looked at the phone, I saw Lisa had already called.  She told me there was a pretty heavy rain with strong winds, but it didn’t last long.  I decided to chance it to see if I could make it to Arlington, 5 miles away, before the rain got me.  I didn’t make it.  I got caught after about 3 miles.  It wasn’t too bad.  Steady, but not too heavy.  The winds were gusty, but I just kept going.  I don’t have enough time to be picky with rain.  It was actually refreshing to get some cool water on me.  I did have my sunglasses, so no road spray.

I plan on taking the day off tomorrow and going to dinner with my wife.  It’ll be a nice break.  I plan on getting back to it Friday and doing about 25 miles, then doing a long ride Saturday with a group.  I’m hoping to do 45 miles with them, but not sure how long the ride is this early in the season for this group.  If it isn’t that long, then I’ll do two rides to make sure I get in at least 45 miles Saturday.  Sunday will be a leisure ride and a great end to a good week of riding.
